Josh Lampron 5th at USA Junior Nationals
Running his first back to back 1500 races in two days (trials and finals) Josh Lampron came from way back (10th place) and closed with his usual strong kick to finish 5th in Eugene, Oregon. The early pace started out slow (62 first 400) and then went even slower (2:07 800), allowing the race to be cluttered as all of the contenders were bunched together at the bell lap. Lampron seemed out of position at the back of the pack, but managed to move through the mass of legs and arms and ran 3:50.24, just off his best mark ever. This draws a close to an unbelievable year of track for the junior, an outdoor season we will long remember. Here is the video of the race.Lampron runs 4:05.99 wins New Balance Nationals!! Wow!

Hello from Mansfield, MA - Home of the Hornets
Welcome to the
home
page of the Boys Cross
Country and
Track and Field Team. Mansfield has a strong tradition of
sports
participation and sports excellence with the Cross Country and Track
and Field Programs a major part of that
success. Mansfield is a
member of the MIAA, the governing body of high school sports here in
Massachusetts and a member of the Hockomock League, a ten
member group
of high schools divided into two divisions (small schools and large
schools). Mansfield is part of the large school division that
includes Franklin High School, North Attleboro High School, Attleboro
High School and King Philip High School. The small school
division includes Canton High School, Stoughton High School, Oliver
Ames High School, Sharon High School and Foxboro High School. Beginning
with the 2010 Cross Country season, the large schools will schedule
meets with the other large schools in the league, while the small
schools will schedule meets with the other small schools. All
schools will come together at the end of the season for a League
Championship Meet.
About Mansfield
Mansfield is a
town
located in the southeastern portion of Massachusetts, near Foxboro and
North Attleboro on one side and Easton and Sharon
on the other
side. The town has a population of around 24,000 and the high
school, with a grade 9-12 population of 1414 students, is the second
largest school in the Hockomock League (Franklin is the
largest).
There are close to 5,000 students going to the Mansfield public school
system. The athletic department at Mansfield High sponsors 25
sports for it students. The town has excellent rail service
to
Boston and has two major interstate highways running through the town
(I-495 runs east to west and I-95 runs north to south). The Mansfield school system is
centrally located on East Street with the athletic fields surrounding
the high school and middle school complex. The
outdoor
track is a 400 meter latex all weather track that was built
in 2003. The cross country home course is situated around the
high school and adjoining town fields. Last year one of its
home
cross country meets was contested at Borderland Park, located at the
Easton/Sharon boundary line. That course is used for the
Hockomock
League Cross Country Championship meet. Indoor track and
field
meets are contested at Franklin High School, which has a flat floor 11
laps to the mile Mondo track surface. Championship meets,
including the Hockomock Indoor Championships and the Massachusetts
State Championships are held at the Reggie Lewis Center located in
Dorchester, MA.
Recent Accomplishments
The
Cross Country team had another successful season as they won the
Hockomock League Championship for the 9th consecutive year and won
their third in a row Division 2 state championship. Leading
the
way were Shayne Collins, Josh Lampron and Matt Cioe.
Indoors provided another super exciting finish to the season, as
Mansfield dominated the state with team victories at the Hockomock
League level (Dual Meet Team Champion and Hockomock Championship
winner), State Division 2 Relay Champs, State Division 2 Champs and All
State Champs. A few of the team members then went down to New
York City's Amory Track to finish fourth at the New Balance Indoor
National Championships. The sprint medley won the national
title
setting the New England Indoor record of 3:28.99. All four
members of the relay (Nick King, Steve Gannon, Griffin Robertson and
Josh Lampron) were selected as All-America. Senior Shayne
Collins finished 3rd in the 2 mile that also resulted in being
selected an All-American. School records were set by Shayne
Collins in the 2 mile, Josh Lampron in the 1000 Meters and Mile Run,
Steve Gannon in the 300 Meters and the 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams.
