Division 2 Eastern Massachusetts Divisional Championships
November 20, 2010 - Gardner Golf Course 2.9 miles  - Sunny, windy 46 degrees

.Despite a gallant effort, it wasn't in the cards for the Mansfield Hornets to win their third state Division 1 title in a row.  The day was bright and sunny, but the higher altitude brought about strong winds that cut across the course with a vengeance.  That was not the determining factor, however, as the starter pistol went off at exactly 11 am and 182 runners stormed out as if they were race horses fighting for the first turn.  The fast pace did not slow down at all, as the first turn went downhill and around the bend.  By the time the masses hit the first rolling hill around the 5 minute mark, Mansfield's troop was a bit out of position.  Shayne Collins and Josh Lampron were in the top 15 spots, but Shayne seemed to be out of sync and struggling a bit.  Matt Cioe looked strong and in control, although a bit back in the upper 20's or so.  The rest of the corp were back quite a bit.

At the 10 minute mark, the front pack were wailing along, but Collins was back a bit on his heels.  He hung in there trying desperately to not give up any spots, while Lampron was actually inching up towards the top 10 group.  That is just about how the results ended up.  Brookline, third in last year's meet, came to the front to win going away.  Lowell, one of the pre-meet favorites finished second and Hockomock runner-up, Oliver Ames, finished an impressive third.

This concludes an excellent run for the Hornets, undefeated for the dual meet season, winners of the Hockomock Championships and the Eastern Ma Division 2 Championships.  Some very nice performances were turned in during the year, with Shayne Collins coming along after a difficult injury filled junior year. Josh Lampron came on very late in the season to show some outstanding distance capabilities, while Matt Cioe showed that being tough and determined can bring you some great results.  Nate Michener, Mitch Negus , Brendan McCarthy and Kham Haleudeth also did very nicely throughout the season.  Unfortunately, Joe Cole, who was one of the top 4 Varsity runners sustained a stress fracture during the Eastern Ma meet and was not able to finish out his final cross country season.
