Win Beating North Attleboro

The Mansfield Boys came together as a team to defeat a determined North
Attleboro squad in a very tight contest Thursday night at the fast BU
facility. The meet was closer than the score may indicate.
Andrew Kuras got the Hornets off in the right direction grabbing the
win in the 55m dash with a PR 6.71. Brian Ferreira also ran a
personal best of 6.98 but it was only good enough for 4th place (Score
MN-5 NA-4). Oliver Erickson was then able to sneak in for 1
point in the Shot Put with a best of 43'1.5". Brian Ferreira
cruised to a win in the 55m Hurdles with another best of 7.89.
After 3 events the score was MN-11 NA-16.
The milers were up next and Mansfield surprised the loud spectators
with a 1-2 finish by
Dave Morrill and Andrew Chotkowski. The 600m run would prove to
be a heartbraker for Griffin Robertson who was on school record pace
until the last 50 meters when he ran into the very talented Dan
Duquette of NAHS on the final straight. Fortunately Kevin Giffels
was there doggin the 2 leaders running a huge PR for 1:24.60 to add 3
points to the team tally. Mansfield responded with another 1-2
finish by the deep distance squad with Kham Haleudeth and Brendan
McCarthy (Score MN-30 NA-24).
This gave the Hornets the a lead which they would not relinquish for
the rest of the evening. The 300m dash would be run at the same
time as the boys were long jumping. Nick King and Andrew Kuras got the
job done with 6 points in a flying fast 300 and then Andrew made his
way back over to the LJ to pop 19'9 for the win! The High Jump
turned out to be another strange event of the night when Brian Ferreira
"no heighted" at 5'10" leaving the door open for Nicholls to grab the
easy win at 5'8" followed up by a 3-way tie for 2nd place at the
opening height of 5'2.
The score was MN-44.67 NA-36.33 before the 2 mile and the
relay.
The 2 milers then swept the event for the 9 available points and the
exciting team
contest was won before the relay. Dan Caughey (9:55.29) ran under 10
minutes for the first time in the 2 mile followed shortly by Zach
Frazier and Mitch Negus. The 4x400m relay of Nick King, Kevin
Giffels, Matt Berluti and Nate Somes added an additional 5 points for a
final score of
