Despite Mansfield being a bit undermanned as a few of the regulars were on the disabled list (but not eating pizza and chicken in the locker room), Mansfield began its 2012 indoor track and field campaign in high gear with a convincing win against Franklin High School.
The Hornets won 10 of the 13 contested events on the large Reggie Lewis facility as a new era of track and field greeted the Hockomock League.
Leading the way were veterans Nick King (double winner in the tough 600-300 events), Andrew Kuras (winner in the 55, second in the 300 and winner in the long jump), Mitch Negus in the 2 mile, Brian Ferreira, winner of the hurdles and high jump and sophomore Oliver Erickson, first time winner in the shot put.
Performances were excellent for this time of the year and being able to run on the banked 200 meter track was quite exciting for the team.
