Today, it was the girls turn to come home with another school record, as the team of Lauren Columbare (2:24.2), Briana Chiusano (28.5), Mariah McGrath (27.9) and Jen Esposito (58.4) finished fourth, but managed to destroy the old Mansfield record of 4:23.26 set by Michelle Jenssen, Kelly Coughlin, Katie Jenkins and Emily Broyles in 2009.  The team started off well as Columbare ran her 800 leg only 2 seconds off her best time, but then disaster almost happened as a Newton North runner stood in lane 1, just as Briana Chiusano was taking the stick from Columbare.  Chiusano had to step off the track and then back on, but managed to maintain her composure and come roaring back into the competition.  Her handoff went well to Mariah McGrath, who then gave the stick to Jen Esposito.  Espo started off cautiously, but then came on strong over the last 100 meters to garner 4th place.

Kristen McDonagh won her second major confrontation with Moira Cronin, this time winning easily at 5-6.  Cronin could only manage 5-4.  McDonagh then had the bar moved up to 5-9, which would have tied her personal best, but, despite three very good attempts, could not clear the height.

McDonagh and Dana Foley also recorded personal bests in the 55 meter hurdles, with times of 8.97 for McDonagh and 9.04 for Foley.  Paige Grimes ran a 9.01.

The team of Kayla Comer, Jen Esposito, Julia Jones and Jess Verbic had their hands full with Newton North, but held on for a very exciting finish and win in the 4x200.

The 4x400 saw a season best as Molly Jenssen continues to improve with a lead off leg of 64.4.  Emily Broyles, finally coming back from a long layoff ran a comfortable 64.3 (coaches' orders).  Senior captain Amanda Zieselman ran a 64.5, while sophomore Julia Jones ran her best spit ever indoors, as she ran 60.5.  The team finished with a time of 4:13.75.

ON the boys side, the 4x200 had a tough competition coming from arch rival Andover.  Steve Gannon started things off well, leading the other teams through a 22.8, followed by Nick King's 22.5 leg.  Griffin Robertson could not hold onto the lead, despite his 23.3, as Andover began their move to the front of the pack.  Junior Andrew Karus, filling in for regular Greg Donahue, who was sick with the flu, ran 23.9, but could not catch Andover.

Brian Ferreira continues to make significant improvements in the hurdles, recording a personal best of 8.03 in the preliminaries of the 55 meter hurdles.  He struggled a bit in the finals, recording an 8.30, for 7th overall.

Next up for the Green and White will be the Hockomock Championship next Saturday, Feb 12, 2011.
