One week after their impressive team victory at the State D2 Relays, the Mansfield boys returned to Reggie to challenge themselves against the entire state at the Coaches Invitational. Mitch Negus started off the day on a good note, running a 9 second PR in the 2 mile (10:13.85). The sprinters grabbed the limelight next for the Hornets has Griffin Robertson (37.23), Nick King (36.21) and Steve Gannon (36.00) went 19th, 4th and 3rd respectively in the 300meter dash. Steve’s time was the second fastest and Nick’s was the third fastest ever run by MHS athletes. Kevin Giffels (1:30.83) qualified for the D2 championship meet in the 600m and Nate Somes ran a PR of 1:27.65.

Brian Ferreira cleared 6’1” in the high jump and then ran a PR of 8.16 in the 55m hurdles. Greg Donahue (7.01) and Andrew Kuras (7.15) sped to PR’s in the 55m dash. Bill Giannouloudis (43’11.75) and John Puleo (42’6.25) had solid performance over at the shot put circle. The 1000m run was the event that the crowd was waiting for and Josh

Lampron did not disappoint. Josh took the lead from the gun and never looked back at the quality field behind him; winning in a new school record time of 2:29.77! Shayne Collins watched Josh’s race from the infield waiting for the boys seeded 2 mile and decided to repeat the feat. Shayne crossed the finished line in 9:22.28 the second fastest 2 miler from MHS ever. Patrick Greaney jumped 20’3 in the long jump.

Onto the relays…the 4x800m team of Kham Haleudeth (2:05.0), Joe Cole (2:07), Ryan Petrella (2:03.7), Jonah Primiano (2:06.5) ran a very nice 8:22.81. Donahue, Andrew Kuras, Greaney, Somes combined for a solid 4x200m of 1:36.17. Mansfield returned to the top of the podium for the third time of the day in the 4x400m relay. Gannon (50.5), King (51.3), Lampron (53.2) and Robertson (51.2) finished in 3:26.16
