The
annual season ending team dinner, with it traditional 30 plus pizza's
brought to a close one of the most successful indoor track and field
seasons in Mansfield High School history. Head Coach Julie
Collins congratulated all of the team members, giving out team
certificates and Varsity letters in a cermoney after the dinner.
Announced were the team's special awards including the Most Improved Athlete:
Junior Andrew (Krazy Kat) Kuras, who had a terrific season, running
37.58 for the 300, splitting 23.9 on the 4x200 relay team and
running 7.15 55 meters. The Unsung Hero
was Brian Ferreira, who became a very valuable member of the team with
his hurdling and high jumping skills, scoring big points during the
dual meet season and then at the Hockomock and Division 2
Championships.
The Most Valuable Athlete
for the indoor season was Josh Lampron, who had a super season, leading
the state in the mile, the 1000 meters and running a 1:53.13 for 7th
place at the New Balance Indoor Nationals. Lampron was also a
member of the sprint medley team that won the first ever national title
with a time of 3:28.99, with Josh running a 1:52.2 800 meter anchor
leg.
Other honors were
announced, including the Hockomock All Star team members that included,
Nick King, Steve Gannon, Griffin Robertson, Ryan Petrella, Josh
Lampron, and Shayne Collins. Collins was also selected as the
Hockomock MVP.
Shayne
Collins, Josh Lampron, Nick King, Griffin Robertson, Ryan Petrella and
Steve Gannon were also selected for the Boston Globe All-Scholastic
team.
Finally, Shayne Collins, Steve Gannon, Nick King, Griffin
Robertson and Josh Lampron were selected as All-America as a result of
their accomplishments at the New Blance Indoor National Championships.
Next year's captains were announced at the
conclusion of the banquet. The captains will include Nick King,
Griffin Robertson, Brian Ferreira, Brendan McCarthy, and Kham Haleudeth.
